Well, tonight's run was nothing to write home about. Jon got home a little early so I enjoyed having a little light - usually all of my weekday runs are in the dark. I did 3.3 miles at a 10:40 pace. Nothing spectacular. I'm really, really starting to get down about my pace. I know it's better than it was, but IT'S STILL SO FREAKING SLOW! I'm going to push it on Saturday and see if I can do 4 miles at a sub 10:20 pace.
OK, on the plus side, it was around 20F and windy when I headed out, so at least I was out there, in the cold, doing something good for myself. Not to mention I was risking life and limb on the stretch of road that was sidewalk-free. What the hell is wrong with some drivers? I swear some of those cars were within inches of me as they passed by. I was wearing light colors, a reflective vest, and it wasn't even sunset - I was completely visible. I'm going to overcome my sedentary lifestyle and my inherited ridiculously high cholesterol only be be taken out by some rush hour automon scrolling through their playlists.
There is a pregnant squirrel in our yard who is so cute - she keeps running up a tree with bunches of leaves to make a nest. We put out apple slices for her today and she buried about half of them. I know we'll never see the babies, but I hope I can contribute to their well-being. Geneva was entranced watching her and kept asking to take more food outside. She is so amazingly kind-hearted.
My wonky toe with its lovely purple toenail was in the line of fire all day today. First Geneva stepped on it, then I rammed it into the metal stepstool, then I ran over it with the vacuum. Ow.
